Why 90% of Freelance MVP Builds Fail (And How to Audit Yours)
February 05, 2026 6 min read
The Freelance Nightmare
You paid a freelancer $15,000 to build your app. They promised it in 2 months. Six months later, the app crashes when you click "Login," and the developer has stopped responding to emails. You are not alone.
Why Does This Happen?
Freelancers are often siloed. A great frontend developer might be a terrible database architect. When one person tries to be the designer, frontend engineer, backend engineer, and QA tester, the product collapses under its own weight.
How to Audit Your Codebase
If you suspect your codebase is rotten, ask a technical partner to audit these three things:
- TypeScript Coverage: Are they using 'any' types everywhere? This defeats the purpose of TypeScript and leads to runtime crashes.
- Component Size: Do you have React components that are 1,000+ lines long? This indicates a severe lack of architecture.
- Database Indexing: Are your database queries taking longer than 500ms? They likely forgot to index the database.
Oktuv offers comprehensive Technical Audits. We will review your freelancer's code and tell you if it can be salvaged, or if you need a rewrite.
